Arita and Imari ware - Japan

Arita ware refers to porcelain produced in Arita town, Saga Prefecture, and the surrounding areas.
The term Arita ware came into use after the Meiji era; during the Edo period, it was called Imari ware or Hizen ware.
The discovery of kaolin, the raw material for porcelain, made Arita one of Japan\\\'s leading porcelain producing regions.
It became famous for its overglaze enamel decoration on a white porcelain base, giving rise to a variety of styles.
