Mino ware is a type of pottery still produced in Gifu Prefecture, and from the Heian period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, it served as the kiln of a daimyo (feudal lord), leaving behind many masterpieces.
The term Mino ware is a broad category, encompassing many other types of ceramics that have left their mark on history, such as Shino ware and Oribe ware.
Mino is also said to be the birthplace of Shiro tenmoku, a type of porcelain designated as an Important Cultural Property.
We will introduce these numerous masterpieces of Mino ware, along with photographs of ceramics from our museum collection.
