菊花天目茶碗 – Tenmoku Chrysanthemum

菊花天目茶碗（きっかてんもくちゃわん）は16世紀、室町時代に日本の瀬戸窯もしくは美濃窯で作られたと考えられます。
天目茶碗と言えば中国の建窯（けんよう）や、磁州窯（じしゅうよう）のものが有名です。
中国では12世紀の南宋時代に製作はされていたものですが、日本では16世紀の室町時代に需要が高まり、倣って製作がされます。
基本的な形は建窯の天目、建盞の束口碗（そくこうわん）と歛口碗（れんこうわん）の中間の形状で、高台から腹部にかけてなだらかに上方向に引き上げられ、口縁下で垂直に向かいます。
束口碗ほど口がすぼまらず、この形状は瀬戸天目に多く見られます。
高台は建窯のものと形が異なり、角が落とされ中央が窪みます。
高台脇まできっちりと釉薬をかけ、土見せがほとんどないのは建窯よりも磁州窯の様式を真似たものでしょう。
菊花天目は黄色い釉薬の上から茶褐色の釉薬を塗りつけることで、菊の花びらのように見えることからそう呼ばれます。
内外両面に描かれた花びらは、釉薬の鉄分が溜まり、黒い縁取りがされ美しく際立ちます。

In Japan, the demand increased in the Muromachi period of the 16th century, and it was imitated and manufactured.
The basic shape is similar to Jian ware, with a smooth torso and vertical under the rim.
The mouth is not narrowed and is a shape often seen in Seto Tenmoku.
The bottom has a different shape from Jian ware, with the corners shaved off and the center recessed.
The glaze is applied to the bottom border and the soil is almost invisible, which is more like Cizhou ware than Jian ware.
Tenmoku tea bowl with Chrysanthemum looks like chrysanthemum petals by applying brown glaze over yellow glaze.
The petals painted on both the inner and outer sides are beautifully accentuated by the iron content of the glaze and the black border.
