定窯 白磁印花草花文盤 – Ding ware Plate

定窯は中国・宋代の有名な窯の一つで華北に存在しておりました。
唐代の頃には黄釉や褐釉なども製作されていましたが、最も主要な製品は本品のような白磁です。
北宋定窯の白磁の胎土は磁器質が進み、純白で固く焼きしまったもので、その上にやや黄身の帯びた釉薬が施されます。
最大の特徴はその器面に施された模様で、道具を使って模様を彫る「刻花」と型を使って模様を押す「印花」という２種類の技法が使われます。
本品は見込みは主に刻花が使用され、中央に草花文、その周りを蓮弁文が一周し、さらに草花文が６点、最外周には雷文が施されます。
外面は印花にて唐草文がうっすらと施されており、器面全体がとても豪華です。
北宋定窯では覆焼きと呼ばれる、器面を裏返し口部を窯面に当てて焼成をする技法を用いており、畳つけまで施釉され、代わりに口縁部の釉薬は削ぎ落とされ金属の覆輪が付けられます。
器胎は光にかざすと透けるくらい薄く、釉薬の象牙色も合わせて柔和な質感を湛えます。
流麗で鮮明な施文技法は景徳鎮をはじめ、多くの南北の窯場に影響を与えることとなります。

Ding ware is one of the famous kilns in the Song Dynasty of China, which existed in North China.
During the Tang Dynasty, yellow glaze and brown glaze were also produced, but the most important product is white porcelain like this one.
The white porcelain clay of the Northern Song Ding ware is porcelain, pure white, and hard-baked, and is topped with a slightly yellowish white glaze.
The biggest feature is the pattern applied to the surface of the vessel, and two types of techniques are used: one that uses a tool to carve the pattern, and the other that uses a mold to press the pattern.
This product mainly uses carved patterns, with a flower pattern in the center, a lotus petal pattern around it, 6 flower patterns, and a thunder pattern on the outermost periphery.
The outer surface is decorated with a faint arabesque pattern using a mold, and the entire surface of the vessel is very gorgeous.
Northern Song Dynasty Ding ware uses a technique of turning the surface of the vessel upside down and applying the rim to the surface of the kiln for firing.
It is glazed to the bottom, and the rim glaze is scraped off and a metal ring is attached instead.
The vessel body is so thin that it can be seen through when held up to the light, and the ivory color of the glaze gives it a soft texture.
The elegant and clear patterning technique influenced many kilns in the north and south, including Jingdezhen.
