越州窯の祭器として使用された蓋付きの壺ですが、この蓋は外せるものではなく下部と完全に張り付いております。
焼成時に偶然張り付いたものでなく、意図したものであり、祭器として中に何かを入れて焼成した可能性も考えられます。
壺の側面には無数にされた炎を象ったような装飾も相まって、おぞましい雰囲気を感じます。
越州窯の青磁は「秘色」と言われ、オリーブがかった上品な青磁が掛けられ、北宋時代になると本品のように緑色が鮮やかに発色するようになります。
